No, the concern was that people out in the boonies might be ignorant hicks who would vote for a bad choice because they didn't have much exposure to either candidate's viewpoints. So they added the Electoral College as a safety net (presuming that the actual electors would have more information about all the candidates...) Now can we get back to *security* issues, like "Is a Diebold hackable by a chimpanzee?" :) (Personally, I'm convinced that there *was* fraud on *both* sides, but not enough to actually *provably* sway the end result for President, so we need to move on and start thinking about how to make 2008 a *tough* election to hack - and *that* discussion *is* on topic here.. ;)
