It's not a Windows "feature", linux:
[ovidiu@dixie ovidiu]$ ping 010.010.10.10
PING 010.010.10.10 (8.8.10.10) 56(84) bytes of data.
- --- 010.010.10.10 ping statistics ---
2 packets transmitted, 0 received, 100% packet loss, time 1010ms
The leading 0 makes ping interpret the numbers as octal. And 10 in octal is
exactly 8 in decimal. Mistery solved.
