No that it helps your support situation, but the core zSeries work was a
skunkworks project - IBMers in Europe and some SuSE guys.
RedHat does a good packaging job - but my impression is that they are patch
integrators on 390/z - not patch creators.
It's worth investigating SuSE for comparative platform support- that certainly
seems to be IBM's preferred route on the VMs:
