There is speculation that this is done to minimize 'monopoly' accusations as
they re-implement "SiteFinder" and nix NXDOMAIN again.

They have a schlub testifying how great it is that there is something to
prevent "project-stopping 404-errors". How does SiteFinder even relate to
404's? 404 is a server response indicating a non-existant document specified
by the URI. It has to be returned by a server that was correctly resolved.
There is little doubt as to why the firm which cooked these studies up for VS
is called "Markitecture".
