ESA-2013-047: RSA® Authentication Agent for PAM Unlimited Login Attempts
Vulnerability
EMC Identifier: ESA-2013-047
CVE Identifier: CVE-2013-3271
Severity Rating: CVSS v2 Base Score: 7.5 (AV:N/AC:L/Au:N/C:P/I:P/A:P)
Affected Products:
RSA Authentication Agent for PAM 7.0
Unaffected Products:
RSA Authentication Agent for PAM 7.1
Summary:
This update provides a fix for unlimited login attempts vulnerability in RSA
Authentication Agent for PAM.
Details:
RSA Authentication Agent for PAM version 7.0.2 and prior relied on the
PAM-enabled application to restrict the number of login attempts that may be
made via the agent, rather than natively enforcing such restriction.. This may
allow attackers to carry brute-force attacks against the vulnerable systems.
RSA Authentication Agent for PAM 7.0.2.1 and 7.1 and later support Exponential
Backoff feature that is designed to mitigate this vulnerability. See release
notes for configuration instructions.
Recommendation:
RSA recommends that customers apply 7.0.2.1 patch or upgrade to 7.1 or later at
the earliest opportunity.
